Historical Landmarks
- Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg
Location: Place de la Cathédrale
Open hours: from April to October daily, from 9 am to 5:30 pm; from November to Mars daily, from 9am to 4:30 pm
Info: A famous emblem of Strasbourg, this was the world’s tallest building from 1625 to 1874 and it’s still the fourth tallest church on the planet.
- Maison Kammerzell
Location: 19 rue des Hallebardes
Open hours: variable
Info: This is one of the most famous buildings of Strasbourg and one of the most ornate and well preserved medieval buildings in late Gothic architecture.
- Palais de Rohan
Location: 2 Place du Château
Open hours: from Wednesday to Monday, from 10 am to 6 pm
Info: A supreme achievement of the rococo style, the palace hosts several museums and famous works of art (Do Rubens, Van Dyck or El Greco ring a bell? And they’re not the only painters whose works are put on display here.)
- Eglise St-Thomas
Location: Rue Martin-Luther (near Pont St. Thomas)
Open hours: May to October daily from 10 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 6pm; from November to December daily from 10 am to 12 pm and from 2 to 5 pm; from February to April daily from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Info: This is a very old Potestant church, built between 1230 and 1330. A must see.
Museums
- Musée Alsacien
Location: 23 quai St-Nicolas
Open hours: Monday and Wednesday to Saturday, from 12 pm to 6pm; Sunday, from 10 am to 6pm
Info: Medieval at its best. Visit this to see interesting items from the daily lives of Alsatian peoples from the 13th to 19th centuries.
- Musée de l’Oeuvre Notre-Dame
Location: 3 place du Château
Open hours: from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 6 pm
Info: One of the best organized museums in Europe, this little jewel showcases artworks of the Middle Ages and Renaissance from Strasbourg and Alsace.
- Musée d’Art Moderne
Location: 1 place Hans Jean Arp
Open hours: from Tuesday and Wednesday and Friday, from 11 am to 7 pm; Thursday, from 12 pm to 10 pm; Sunday, from 10 am to 6 pm.
Info: Modern, but not quite: you’ll also see some interesting 19th century work in this museum of La Petite France.
Tourist Attractions
- Orangerie
Location: Parc de L’Orangerie
Open hours: variable
Info: This is a golden classic of classical parks. It has a small free zoo featuring birds and a few other animals and an excellent playground for children.
